Takeover captures the historic mobilization of the Young Lords Organization to advocate for the health and human rights of community members in the South Bronx, New York in 1970 to access equitable healthcare services. These efforts followed heroic community organizing initiatives by the Young Lords on the Northside of Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s.
6:45 PM to 7:30 PM - REFLECTIONS ON HISTORY, ACTIVISM & THE SELF DETERMINATION OF PUERTO RICAN HEALTH
Invited panelist will discuss structural and systemic issues that catalyzed the Takeover of the Lincoln Memorial Hospital by the Young Lords on July 14, 1970 in the South Bronx, New York and how it contributed to broader advocacy and policy change for patient rights.
